I guess I'm spoiled by even Holiday Inn express. The room usually comes with a sofa/coffee table and working desk as well. That gives me plenty of room to spread out my stuff. Of course, size of the room is not the biggest concern. Location, neat/clean is more important.
Also depend on purpose of the trip. If plan for sightseeing, doesn't have to be that luxury. But if luxury comes in good price...why not? So that's why I like to go to Vegas once a while...6 stars hotel in 3-4stars price...
