Some say the production and disposal of the battery is harmful to the enviroment, but then this believe is false (I was reading something a while ago) because the battery can run for like 8-10 years. The batteries are also safer because most new batteries are lithium based, so no more lead and nickel. Since we have a quite complete recycling system for these things, so the enviromental damage is not as hard.

Hybrid cars are just a transitional products I think. We are ultimately going into fuel cell and fission in the near future. We are still very demanding cruel oil.

順帶一提嘅係，果唯一一架慳錢過電油車嘅 hybrid係架 Mercedes S class，而佢之所以慳錢電油版嘅原因亦係因為佢本身個車價已經平過架 comparable 嘅電油版型號，如果唔係連最後呢一架都平唔過...

Hybrid is by no mean perfect, but it is a step towards the right direction.  Plug-in hybrid and electric are is the next steps.

Whether hybrid car makes sense or not, will depend on how much you drive and how you drive.  If you are a weekend drive or mainly drive on the highway, then hybrid may make a bigger carbon footprint than buying a SUV.  On the other end, Vancouver Taxis converting to hybrid make perfect sense and can take full advantage of the technology.

As for the batteries, for sure it will last more than five year.  I think the old Prius has 8 year warranty on batteries and the new model has 10 year.
