Stability is great but most people don't realize that good times don't last forever.

Good times depends on perspective. 10% of the people making 90% of the money, even in developed nations... good times for the rich, bad times for the others.

Perhaps the next generation will have a better wealth distribution and better utility of resource, despite a lower overall output. Maybe then everybody gets what they need, instead of money wasted on useless Ferrari's by the super riches.

yes, but the issue is, what is 穀 in this case?
following a previous discussion, to me 穀 is your earning power or knowledge.
it doesn't matter what job you are having, it's about your ability to secure a better future.

some people have found nice stable jobs in big companies or the government, then they sit back and relax until the day they are laid off

referring 穀 as the earning power or knowledge is certainly great. But to me, in any cases, we need some form of savings. Even we have a stable job or not, try to set aside a budget for saving.
