Basically when the cost of the repair > the cost of replacement, then they will offer total loss.

However you can challenge that if you have a just cause, ex. collector car, car that you owned and rebuilt... etc.

My friend who has an SC MR2, and ICBC wanted to total his car, he ended up made ICBC paid the bill for repair.. close to $10k I think because SC MR2 are rare and he spent quite a bit of time rebuilding the car.

I thought if the cost of repair is up to a certain relatively high percentage (say, 70 or 80%?) of the cost of the value of the vehicle, then the car would be written off. It's just that I don't know what that approximate percentage value is.

Of course, I don't know this for sure la.

Aiya....Do u guys think I can talk to the adjuster I dun think the car is safety, so can ICBC will total lost the car...I checked the blk book that my car worst abt $16000(max) and now cost almost $12000 to repair. I bought extra insurance beside ICBC, if my car total lost in 5 years, they will get me the new one....
