VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Millions of Canadians are sitting down for a special Thanksgiving meal this weekend and people on Vancouver's downtown eastside are no exception.

The folks behind the annual feast at the Union Gospel Mission are also looking ahead; to what could be a brutal winter.

Dave Weiss with the Mission says they're concerned about the cold forecast we're expecting this year.  "The homeless are already noticing a change in the weather and we are seeing more people in our emergency shelters.  Those people who would otherwise sleep outside in the autumn."

The UGM is looking for donations for coats and blankets.  Weiss adds they always accept money as well, as the Mission can buy 10,000 socks in for people who need them.
