VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It was fireworks mayhem in Vancouver this Halloween. There was about $1.5 million in damage after 18 fires were started across Vancouver.
"The majority of the damage that happened or occurred was in the southeast area of Vancouver, particularly in the Main St.and Fraser St. to 59th Ave. area," says Fire Captain Gabe Roder.
Four elementary schools, Walter Moberly, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, John Henderson and John Henderson Annex, were damaged and A1 Garden Plus at 1450 Venables, which sold fireworks, was completely destroyed.
Roder adds it's too soon to tell if tougher restrictions are needed. Last year, Halloween brought 22 fires, but damage was only in the $50,000 range.
