Driving after 2-3 inches of snow..

本帖最後由 chobit 於 2010-11-23 14:42 編輯

It was pretty icey last night after 3 inches of snow mixed with strong cold wind last night.  But the sun is out today (at -4c) with some blue skys, I decided to give my P-car a spin in the snow.

My 1st winter season on my C4S
Tires: Pirelli Winter 240

I was only driving in 2nd gear & I kept  the speed around 25mph and peak at 3x mph.  The top was down, with a little heat on + heated seat, it was actually very warm.

The overall performance seems to be much better than my previous 06 STi, and the 08 RDX (wife's car).  Direction control is easy, good braking, and feel very secure.  Not sure if it's the rear engine bias or it's the tires, or traction control?  I was driving my wife RDX with brand new Michelin Latitude X-Ice Xi2, and the ABS kicks in all the time during braking, it takes longer to stop, and it has to corner at much slower speed.  But then it's not so fair, since the tires are far too new, and it was more icy yesterday than this afternoon.

My 06 STi was on Dunlop M3 Winter Tires.

This is not surprising at all wor?  Your C4S is lighter, lower (and has a lower CG), and more driver oriented than the RDX to begin with. Those are the very same things that makes the car drive better in the dry. As long as you don't abuse the power (and torque, especially) you have on hand, of course the P-car will drive better mah.

The P-car will continue to drive better than the RDX until it runs out of ground clearance.

But I feel sorry for all that salt, dirt, and grime that accumulates on the car!

Well... at this point, I am only driving locally where it does see any salt..  yet..!  But then.. it's my daily drive, so chance is it will see some eventually... and I will try my best to wash the car as much as I can.

It's not wise to drive a low clearance vehicle like the porsche under icy and snowing weather. You are driving yourself into trouble...

I did the same with my lowered STi without an issue, so hopefully it is the same with my Porsche
