VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It took three marathon public hearings, two hours of debate and plenty of work by staff, but Hastings Park now has a new 20-year master plan.

The Friends of Hastings Park are disappointed with the expansion plan. The group's Georgina Nicholson says it comes up short.

"I think expansion of Playland is pretty unpalatable to the neighbourhood. A lot of features, like the over-McGill Connector, and the re-establishment of a stream, are years away. Council says Hastings Park has to be financial viable. Why don't the other parks have to be as viable?" she remarks.

The city insists the plan will triple park space, will create a park perimeter greenway and will come with new community celebration spaces.
