VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Catholic bishops in Canada are reiterating their belief in straight-up nookie.
They warn married couples not to get too focused on all the extracurricular stuff, which may be a misuse of sex that ignores God's intentions. In a pastoral letter, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops says married couples should lead chaste lives; not celibate, but no non-intercourse shenanigans!
The 'no shenanigans' part is a deal-breaker for some. "Doesn't surprise me at all that they'd make that statement. Growing up Catholic and not following the religion, I think it's ridiculous," says one woman.
Another lapsed Catholic suggests the church has no business telling people how to have sex. "Especially with their history. I actually used to be Catholic and very much disagree with their policies. Especially that one."
One theologian tells the National Post it's not really about discouraging sexual activity outside of intercourse, but more that any act should ultimately lead to intercourse for Catholic couples.
