Reports of shots fired in Richmond

METRO VANCOUVER - Sometime after 9 p.m. gunshots were fired near Alderbridge Way and Westminster Highway in Richmond, B.C.

Reports from various media outlets stated that up to 10 shots were fired from a car, directed at a townhouse complex.

An RCMP officer at the main Richmond detachment confirmed that officers were undertaking an investigation at an apartment building, but then said the duty officer would have to issue any further statement.

Insp. Davis Wendell is the duty officer on scene, but is only available to speak with media in person, at the scene -- not over the phone or via email.

Richmond RCMP blocked off a block along Westminster Highway in order to conduct an investigation.

Workers at a nearby cold beer and wine stories and at a nearby pub were reached on the phone -- they said their establishments had not been affected by the police action.
