Campaign hits crucial mark as advance polls open in one week

0 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The next two weeks are crucial for all of the federal party leaders.
With only one week until the advance polls open, the campaigns are anxiously waiting the next full wave of public opinion polling to learn if they were able to change any minds during the two televised leaders' debates.
The latest Nanos tracking poll, released this morning, included impressions of the French debate and revealed Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff was not able to gain traction. In fact, the poll shows Liberal support has slipped since the English debate, down to 28.8 per cent from 31 per cent.
The Conservatives are at 38.7 per cent, widening the gap between the Tories and the Liberals to ten points. The NDP is closing in on the Liberals, with only a ten point difference - a jump from the 18 point difference at the start of the campaign. The poll shows the NDP are now at 18 per cent.
NDP leader Jack Layton remains in Quebec this morning before heading east to Prince Edward Island. Conservative leader Stephen Harper with be back in southern Ontario at a rally in Thornhill before heading to Saskatoon.
Michael Ignatieff is scheduled to make another announcement in Ottawa before hosting a round table discussion in Sudbury. Green Party leader Elizabeth May remains in BC today.
