The funny thing is... Samsung makes quite a bit of components for Apple (screen, DRAM, flash).. I really don't know what Cupertino is smoking there... they are shooting themseleves on the foot.
Samsung introuduced the Galaxy S line some time in mid-2010, and it was top of the line of Android last year. I think at that time, there were the Desire, Droid-X, Legend, Incredible and a few others. It was the only one that stood up to the iPhone. It was also the main reason I got mine. It was simply the fastest last year.
Samsung will still do it this year with the 1.2Ghz (if not 1.4Ghz) dual processor Galaxy S II with the 4.3" Super AMOLED II with a larger battery. Obviously they will rush this out before the iPhone 5 hits the store later this year.
