Man rides SkyTrain with sword from Metrotown to Burrard
Transit Police didn't catch up with him until Burrard Station

0 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver Police say a man under arrest for unsheathing a sword downtown, rode SkyTrain with the weapon out in the open, all the way from Metrotown to Burrard Station.
The man then waved the sword around on the steps of Christ Church Cathedral on Burrard. Police were forced to shut down the intersection of Burrard and Georgia just in time for the afternoon rush.
Cst. Lindsey Houghton says the man was hit with rubber projectiles from an Arwen gun and was Tasered but wasn't taken down until after a foot chase. Nobody was hurt.
The man is under arrest and police are recommending he go through a psychological evaluation.
Transit Police say they originally believed the problem was at Metrotown. After they learned the man was still on the train, they deployed resources to Burrard Station. The man was already outside at this point, which is when VPD took over. |
