Swaying your boss to let you work from home
Doesn't mean sitting on the couch all day

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Imagine waking up for work and not having to shower or change out of your pyjamas. Just ahead of tomorrow's "Unofficial Work From Home Day," we're looking at the best ways to bring up the issue of telecommuting with your boss.
You have to remember that it's not a day to be a slacker and lay on the couch.
Peter Harris with Workopolis says it's not an 'official' day yet, but this is a start.
"[You have to] demonstrate that the work still gets done and you don't need to be in the office at a certain time to be at your best. As long as people can show they are still productive, there is a distinct advantage for employers."
If you're going to your boss to ask if you can stay home tomorrow, Harris adds you might want to bring up all the benefits.
"It empowers workers. It aids with employee retention and loyalty to their jobs. I mean, employers are having to compete for top talent, so one of the things they can offer is flexible arrangements because it's so important to people." |
