100% your head ...
Yes. many new comers from China may spend $million on buying houses like nothing .. but still many (most) people in Van/richmond/Coq etc live in houses UNDER $1M ...
Just like HK .. many $100M homes .. but in general, everything is cheaper .. (basic)
Food/service etc are much cheaper in Vancouver compare to Calgary (or even Edmonton) ..
So say $10K/month basic expense, in Van, may be $4-5K in mortgage (normal people, not people from mainland with big cash) vs $3-4K in mortgage in Calgary ... but then property tax is higher in % here .. we are talking ~ 10% different in total spending .. we may pay 5 or 10 cent less in gas, but more in dinning out, servicing, (ie Nanny is 20% more expensive here then Van) and parking! Downtown parking here is ~ $500/month, vs $200 in Vancouver .. 2 parking spots already make out the mortgage different.
Anyway .. back to Topic .. buying an old film Leica .. may be an investment .. on digital body .. hard to say ...
well, you look at things in %s, not absolute dollars

I think I'm the other way round, I look at actual dollars, not %.
You bought a camera at $3100 and it raised to $4300 later, it's a 38.7% gain but still only $1200. But in real estate investment, it's not likely to have that % of gain in a short term but easily to gain more than just $1200.
But let's stop discussing this investment comparison, which is not really related to the topic. Sorry to have this raised up.
