VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - We told you yesterday that Calgary hospitals are posting emergency room wait times online. In a News1130 follow up, we can now tell you that same service is coming to the Lower Mainland.
By next June, you'll be able to go online to find out how long you'll be waiting to see a doctor.
The idea first came up a few years ago and when it launches next year, Eric Grafstein with St. Paul's Hospital says wait times will be available for five hospitals or urgent care centres. But there's another thing he wants people to understand:
"You wouldn't want people with serious problems to look at a time and say 'I'm not going to go to the hospital because it's too busy' when they actually should have. So, the idea is if you have an emergency you need to call 911. It doesn't change things like that."
The service will be available for St. Paul's, Vancouver General, Richmond General, Lions Gate, Mount Saint Joseph's, and the UBC Urgent Care Centre. Grafstein adds if the service is successful, hospitals in the Fraser Health will be encouraged to get on board as well. |
