I would like to know what was the cause of so many serious injuries/death in this year's HK marathon. Well, may be it's not really especially high with 1 in 70,000. It's still very sad.
So is marathon running dangerous?
I think we really need to look into running as a sport. Like any sports, you need proper training to prepare for marathon running. You also need to consult your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to do such long distance running. During your training, you will learn about how to read your body and learn when to stop and when to push.
I did my first half marathon last year with almost 5 months of training but my friend told me that I was pushing myself a bit too fast. (from NEVER doing any sports before) And I did suffered from some injury during the training.
This year, I signed up again and had already started my training slowly in Dec. Hopefully by May, I can do it with confidence!
