We didn't stay in that one. It is a bit far and we preferred to stay in a hotel which was closer to the center. The city at night was very beautiful when the streets and buildings were lighted up.

Unfortunately, the city stop lighting up the streets and buildings after the earthquake (I guess for the purpose of energy saving). The streets turns dark and empty after the sunset.

I guess it was still the same situation when you visited there.

you mean not even these lights?

No, the canal is the only part left to be lighted up after the earthquake.

The commercial streets that you took photos during the day were normally all lighted up with sport lights. So the buildings looked beautiful and the streets were full of people. But now they are all empty after dark.

It was all lighted up over there and the time was about 7pm

I guess that was only a temporay energy saving procedure for a few months?
even when I was in tokyo last year in October, I didn't see much light being turned off

When did you visit there? I was there in the summer and did not see the buildings lighted up at all (the lights inside the stores should not be counted). I was so disappointed since my friends were expecting to see what I showed them in the pictures we took before the quake.

Even Sapporo was much darker than the time before the quake. The shopping centers used to be shined under spot lights, but they were all turned off when we were there in summer.

I was there 4 weeks ago ^^

I guess they had not fully recovered from the electricity supply during the time of your visit
everything was quite back to normal when I visited tokyo last October
