ScanGauge II Group Buy

The ScanGauge is a good tool to have to monitor the condition for the car. Especially with the high gas price, it's a good idea to know how well you are doing on gas usage and improve the numbers.

I recommend people to buy another cable for it as it is very convenient to use the device on another car (like scanning codes).

It's going for about $150 in the US shipped, and I paid $18 for taxes when I bring it over.

My post in BCMazda3
I initially saw this in Mazda6Club, and the guys are all happy about it. Generally they go for $160 shipped. I was able to find $10 off shipped from one of the dealer. The unit was shipped direct from the manufacturer via Priority Mail in AZ. They shipped on the 13th and arrived on the 14th in Point Roberts.

You can also pick up an extra cable for another car for $18.95 (kind of rip off.. but they have the best price)

As you check out (they take Canadian credit cards!!), apply coupon code YTSG2, and the $10 discount should be reflected. $150 shipped is within US only.

Installing it was painless, and setup was easy. Everyone can do it.

See what it can do for you: http://www.scangauge.com/

It just connects to the OBDII connector, and reads information from the computer. It displays stuff like temp, pressure, mileage, and other stuff that could be helpful and save gas. It also scans for CEL codes and reset them.

Some pics:

I will re-locate it to the area under the vent on the driver side, caz as you can see, it is blocking the speedo.

I got one for a while now, great for those OBDII codes ... As soon as the code pops up, I can delete it on the fly ...

When I ordered mine (winter of 06), I ordered it through the website and it get shipped out from their warehouse from Ontario, which I believe is the local retailer, so no custom to deal with.  And it was $190 USD ...

A word of caution, the refresh rate is not quick, the fastest setting is around 1Hz ...
The accuracy on speed/distance varies too, on the Subaru it was 7% off, on the Toyota it was spot on, BMW was off by 4%... but there is a fudge factor option built in ...

it might be a good tool but when u have a new car that everything is under warranty? why bother?

unless u have a heavily mod car, then that will become very very useful...

my sister's GC only had CEL twice for the last 120k, and that was when she switched from 92 to 89! as soon as she switched back to 92 CEL is gone...the car will be 10 years old in 4 months!

my snap on scanner gets to be handy maybe once every 2 weeks? haha

geez...you got a Snap-On scanner?  rich guy....

OBDII hm...mixed feelings...with OBDI I can retreive the codes without any tool...but not with OBDII.  Lucky my friends work in shops so I can borrow their scanner if I need...heehee

Back to the topic...I don't know how useful it is to know about those inputs of car and how many mpg I'm getting (I can find out every time I fill up).  Given that the car is maintained properly, I would never care to see those info.  The only good thing about it is that it gives your the trouble code.

I was considering the DashHawk too, but it's just too expensive for the same job as ScanGauge. I agree that the ScanGauge looks old-school, but it's practical and cheap.

If you are putting your car down on the track, DashHawk has the capturing feature which could be handy.
