[溫哥華本地新聞] Transit plebiscite: No vote for new Metro Vancouver tax, transit improvements

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/br ... rovements-1.3134857

Metro Vancouverites have voted No in a plebiscite on a $7.5-billion regional transportation plan that could determine the future of transit and transportation across the region over the next decade.

Voters were asked to vote in favour of or against a new 0.5 per cent sales tax that would help fund major infrastructure projects.

The vote was 61.7 per cent No and 38.4 per cent Yes overall for the region, with 759,696 ballots cast in the mail-in plebiscite.

The results were extremely close in the City of Vancouver, with 49.19 per cent saying Yes and 50.81 per cent polling No of the more than 210,000 votes in that city.

Surrey voters clearly rejected the plan, with 65.5 per cent opposed to the new tax, despite support from Mayor Linda Hepner.

Only the village of Belcarra, Bowen Island, and the electoral area including UBC had a majority in favour of the tax and transit improvements.

No surprise to see NO!

as much as most of the "yes" side voters would still want to believe RE: the "no" side has been mis-lead/misinterpreted RE: plebicide, fact is, the "No" side are acutely aware of where they stand, and that is : "they do not believe in translink's ability to manage the extra fundings properly (with accountability) even if we vote "yes" to support the extra 0.5% increase."

"No" side is definitely aware of the situation and the consequence to their voting decisions. Fact is, with the lack of accountability and corporate inefficiency lingered with translink, we'd rather vote no to stop the taxpayers' bleeding and give a strong message to translink for reform.

No reform, no accountability (with translink), no deal.

Also: as I said time-n-time again in the past: I do not support gregor robertson to begin with, and I would never bring him onboard the 2nd time round.
