急診室候34小時 殘廢漢猝死          2008年9月24日

【明報專訊】1名男子上周五到溫尼辟市的醫院急診室看病﹐在候診室乾等34小時後猝死﹐緬尼托巴省保健人員開始調查他的死亡事件。調查人員已約晤醫院職員﹐相信調查工作需時4周。

地區保健人員說﹐那人是急診室「常客」﹐但他沒有在周末登記看急症。周五下午3時許﹐該名45歲男子在溫尼辟市中心社區的保健行動中心搭乘計程車﹐來到保健科學中心。周日午夜左右﹐有人發現他死在急診室的候診室。

溫尼辟地區保健局總醫官賴特醫生(Brock Wrigh﹐圖)說﹐看來男子到了急診室﹐沒有經急診檢傷護士評估﹐也沒有求診登記。

據 CTV電視台溫尼辟分部報道﹐該死者是雙截肢男子辛克萊爾(Brian Sinclair)。該電視台引述1名男子的話說﹐他周五夜間前往急診室﹐看見辛克萊爾坐在輪椅上﹐看似睡覑了。第2天晚上他再去時﹐仍見辛克萊爾一動不動﹐於是他叫護士和保安員去檢查﹐但是他們推說太忙。他找到1名保安員﹐那人卻說﹐處理辛克萊爾需要「辦太多手續」。

People abuse the system too much, the medical people just don't care now........I don't believe people are born to be cold blooded, there must be a reason.

don't know abt US~
HK's is the best but even China has better emergency compared to Vancouver~
(( coz i always get sick))

i thought hospitals in china wont save you (even in ER) unless you show them the money.

at least when you show them money, they will try to save you as soon as possible.

Well ..  it is Canada ar ma ..

One time, I went to ER ..  but waited for 6 plus hr .. I was recover la...  ( bad stomach flu )

Last yr (or the yr before) my brother was feeling really bad at nite .. we went ER ..

guess what ? end up, waited till next morning, we went to a normal clinic ..the next morning ..

I duno if I m lucky or not then..
Cuz everytime I go in the emergency, I onli hv to wait 2 minutes max..
Cuz I hv asthma..so when I tell them I couldn't breath, they let me in..~

I went to ER few times.. if I really sick .. can't stand or walk myself.. need to sit on wheel chair.. need people help me to register... they will let me in within 15 mins..

if I can walk inside and register myself.. I need to wait at least 4 hrs..

But Richmond's ER is the worst.. they don't have number machine or register at all.. my friend broke his feet and went there.. they don't need to register or leave the name for them at all... and the emergency is so small.. it was busy night ... at least 30 people in that small room... they all look so sick.. and those nurses are so rude to us.. keep telling us to wait.. after we waited for half hour..

I told my friend to go to VGH instead.. after my friend can go in within 20 mins..

but I like Burnaby general.. better.. nicer services..

even VGH can go in fast.. but I need to wait for a while to get in the room.. I almost died there few years ago by food posioning.. I wait in the room for 3 hrs.. and keep yelling to them.. if not.. they won't look at me at all..

i had positive experiences with richmond hospital
my dad was in serious conditions and he collasped when assessed by the triage nurse
they treated him immediately.. i think.. most of the doctors came to see him that night.....then he was in the icu for a few weeks...  really thankful that they saved my dad.. i think the nurses were more surprised to see him go back to thank them after he was well..

after working for a health care organization..
i realized.. so many ppl take the system for granted! and some are not even canadian tax payers!.. they come in for services.. and never pay..
