Everytime .. I want to rent a car too .. but either my mom or my wife ..  stopped me ..

well, if I go to places like 北海道, then it is quite painful without a car (normal trains and buses are slow), especially with a child.  The ShinKanshen only operates in 本州.   

唉, Yen is way too high right now ...

however, the other concern is 右呔 ... not sure if I'll do ok.

looking for parking is another concern.

Good idea.  For me, I found that hard to get around in Japan without reading and speaking Japanese.

For right side steering, that's okay , you will get used to it in no time. The only problem is when you drive in the highway or country road, ocassionally you may drive in the wrong side unconsciously if you are occupied with something.
