Approximately how much is the average of 禮金?
And when do you give the 禮金?? During 過大禮?

it really depends because everyone is different... i've heard people receiving from $8 to $12000

do people put all that cash into a red pocket and give it to the girl's parents??

yes, they put cash in the red envelope.
there is no such thing average, it really depends on how much your parents-in-law ask for or how much can you afford.   usually it is a lucky number

not only cos of 手緊.
And same for 男家. (which ever side's 利是 goes to that side) and the 男家 also pay for the 酒席.
But now, I think 禮金 is just a symbol. So just a small amount is ok.
Most couple pay for their own wedding anyway.

lucky number...
so like $9999 or $8888? but $8888 is just "rich" but $9999 is for the couple like a blessing right?

or $8899?

never give a odd number.  like $3800, $1680 &...  yes 8 means rich and everyone wants to be rich ma.

i've read that topic. it's about 人情, not 禮金. i want to know how much should a guy give to the girl's parents. and not how much should one give to the couple when attending their wedding.

right. sorry about it.

When I got married, we had two weddings, one in Taiwan which 男家 hosted and got the 禮金 and another one in Malaysia which my wife's parents hosted and got the 禮金.  男家 also gave reasonable amount of money to my wife's parents.  I forgot how much, sorry.

myversa speaks mandarin. May be 禮金 in taiwan means same thing as 人情.

yes we call it 聘金; sorry for the misunderstanding.

It's really depends how much your hubby can afford and how much ur parent is asking for~ I think the 禮金 is not necessary in a huge amount.. as you and ur hubby will have to spend quite a lot for your wedding..and the 人情 is hardly cover the 酒席..
