i guess they have checked everything, all spark plug wire replaced, MAF sensor replaced, two catalytic convertors replaced, fuel filter replaced.........etc

wish you luck... all of the used car reviews I've read recommend people to stay far far away from last generation ML.

I'd sell the car as soon as possible.

行4xxx km 入八次廠 .. is normal for ML la..  lol ...

Have you tried another MB dealership?  Bring it to another shop and have another mechanic to work on it.

this thread could help you with some ideas, seems like the guy has the same problem and it doesn't sound too uncommon

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/ ... ssfire-problem.html

Just curious, they replaced your plug wires but not the plugs???  That's bad practice if it's the case.  I guess it's a warranty job so they would replace as few parts as possible.  If you are paying, they might recommend to you as well.

just go buy a Cayenne,  Cayenne V6 is only about 30k now for a used one

Why am I not surprised.

You can either (a) sell it off quickly to recoup your $$, or (b) fix it again and again until hell freezes over.

are u sure urs is running spark plug wires, but not coil?

most of the MB i have worked on are running individual coil, in which no shop would replace all 6 or 8 of them for you unless they found it faulty.

i replaced all 6 on my friend's 328i because he has two dead in the last two months, everytime CEL came back and a diff cylinder is mis-firing; he is tired of all those ****ty driving performance and decided to replace the leftover 5 coils this time (the 2nd time)...

u have to know what code MB has found (should be on ur receipt), then from that code maybe i can see if they are missing anything else!?

what's the mileage of the car? even tho u have only put 4000km on it but it could be one with over 70k?! ML320/350/500?

my friend's S430, brought it back to MB and the car came out with a mis-firing code not long after; they changed this and that for him, paid over $2k and problem is not fixed; turned out when i checked thru his service history they have replaced 14 spark plugs on his V8 (which has 16)...as soon as we get rid of the last 2 spark plugs it's running like a beauty now...

my old mercedes had a similar problem. What kind of gas do you fill up? MB recommend you to go to Cheveron or Husky supreme only (ha, sorry I can't spell, the 92 one la)

a long time ago, my mom went to Superstore gas station due to cheapness. She saw a C230 died right outside the station, but didn't pay attention to it. After driving one block, our car died. The car had similar symptom as your car, and we went to service as many times as you did. End up they found water vapour in the gas tank. They have to empty the tank and change all the jets (whatever they are called la, I am not a car person).

Hope my experience help

but I still recommend you to sell the car back to the dealership........... cuz after we finally fixed the car, although it was still running ok, the performance was not as good as before. We couldn't return it at that time cuz it's mom's stupidity... but for your case, you should return it!

poor mercedes...  i wonder why people are still buying them... and buying them used!! Is it just because you wanna show off you are driving a mercedes (or courtesy car from mercedes)?

My 03 Odyssey, 130 000km, has never been back to the dealership except routine maintenances... same for my 04 Altima, 105 000km now... and they drink superstore regular gas almost every week.

Seriously, ML is really such a bad car, if I see a SUV coming by with one of the headlight not working, I know it's a ML... it's really so bad that the lights burnt faster.

My 03 Odyssey,  ...

you must don't understand that a MB got a lot of high tech stuff than your odyssey.  If you drive a car that only has four wheels, a engine and a transmission, nothing elso to break down, just like a 20 yrs old tercel or corolla.

well... a car with high tech stuff doesn't mean it should break down or easier to break down. A engineer should built it so that it last.

Seriously, I don't think a ML350 has much high tech stuff. I dont' think it has a superior engine management system if it needs to go back to dealership every few months, I don't think it is high tech if it doesn't work, and i don't think a car that burnt halogen headlight as high tech.

We are here talking about the fundamental stuff that are breaking down, things that are low-tech and part of "four wheels, a engine and a transmission"...

If we are talking about a radar cruise control breaking down, auto-leveling headlights, or an automatic parallel parking system, that's a different story.

Agree, as long as they are no longer with Chrysler, they should be good. And I am not bashing current model, just kind of disagree to those paying premium for a MB used car that doesn't work when they can use the same amount for a brand new, reliable car from regular brand.

I'm sorry, I didn't make my point clear.
I mean, for example, an engine is using spark plug wires and distributor compare to a car which using individual coil. The one with individual coil might be have bigger chances to fail, because there are more parts for this system.
多個香爐多隻鬼, more stuff, more chances to fail.

sky: were u saying dealer had all the spark plugs replaced? or do u mean the actual spark plug wire? cuz i think ML350 has individual coil?!?!

all spark plug wire replaced

anyways, ML350 with 70k, it's not a very high mileage that the dealer would have changed all the spark plugs for you (happened to a friend's CLK430, dealer took the plug out and "cleaned" them; threw them back in and CEL came back 2 ~ 3 months after, friend recalled they said the plugs were changed; i took them out regardlessly because of the S430 story, found out they were still the old one; my friend was about to drop by the dealership with his invoice, i found that they were not even replaced! it could be a mis-communication between my friend and the dealership, or the service advisor and the tech); double check the invoice and if they were only cleaned, give all the spark plugs a try?

also IMO your car has "unreasonablelly" low mileage for the previous year, spark plugs could have been fouled with unburnt fuel (even if they were just cleaned, better if they were replaced); have seen that happened onto a lot of the european cars, they really need a good warm up / heat cycle everytime u drive it; that's why european cars can take bosch spark plugs, but totally not recommanded on japanese...

also what's the actual code u are getting? Mis-fire? Multiple Mis-fire? a good way to find out if the coil is dead is to swap it with another cylinder, the check engine code will tell you so (more accurate than measuring the resistance)...

with such a low mileage car, moisture in gas tank could be another reason; you probably won't be able to finish up a tank in a month so if u leave the tank empty (low level) for too many days, moisture in the tank (regardless which gas station u go) will cause the car to run rough, hard to start; those can cause fouled spark plugs as well?

have u tried a diff gas station? like from chevron to petro can, or from petro can to chevron etc?

i just picked up my friend's corolla, 07, 2900km since end of last april; car was not driven for about a week but it was rarely driven even tho when his mom is around; as soon as an oil change is done and i finished up that tank (1/4 left when i picked it up), put in some chevron 92 and the car is totally diff (friend's mom was using 91 from shell)...she is so happy with the diff, and was surprised just a diff gas station would make such a change (she first thought oil change is not necessary, as toyota told her it's not due if it's not 8000km)...

all in all, servicing a vehicle involved a lot of infomation from how the owner uses it (such like my friend has a S2000 but that's his weekend car, he NEVER drives it during weekday and even it's a 06 with 12k, i can see moisture has already contaminated his oil; it's only his 2nd oil change ever since he bought his car lolz)...

i guess driving distance, warm up period, choice of gas, and many other things would affect how a mechanic works on your car; 03 with 70k is not decent average mileage, but the mechanic probably wouldn't know u only have 4000km since sept 06?

yeah try to get another one BUT i do agree if driving too little is not a good thing, especially if u dun warm up ur car before u drive; short trip can never make ur car warms up properly
