Both you and Utada have been too late to come, her recent albums sucked and her popularity fell off the cliff.

Yes, her US English album attempt kinda sucked, but she's still constantly #1 in sales and popularity in Japan.

Her last albums Ultra Blue and Heart Station are the best.
If you judge it against her R&B roots, then of course her music style changed.
But I think her music has one of the most innovative sounds and music arrangement in the Jpop scene.
