Actually, I kind of agree with you. But the Chinese can still use Baidu, and Google Hong Kong site. The same material will be censored as before. So not much has changed.
But the big winners are going to be Baidu and other Chinese IT companies which can now invest more resources into searches engines.
When China becomes democratic some day, then Google may go back to China. But do you think they will ever regain their market share, LOL?
These internet bullies like google, think they can rule the world and do as they wish. But they lost to Baidu, the same way ebay, Yahoo, Amazon lost to their Chinese competition.
They are not use to being number 2 in any market, now they want to save their face by pulling out.

I still don't understand the intention of Google. Maybe have to wait for someitme before the truth begins to reveal itself.

Google must understand the situation in China and what to expect from the Chinese government before it even decided to enter China market.

In addtion, China is not the only country filters web contents. Other western countries also filter the web contents (of course, it is not to the extend of what China does). And Google complies to those requirements as well in those countries (Peter might like this part - Google has no problem to comply to the Indian government's requirements to filter web contents).

My position is to wait and see.

Intelligent agency of most countries in the world has its tactic force continuingly develop the technologies and abilities to launch sophisticated cyber attaches on the national communication networks, military commanding or coordinating systems. More importantly, every country is hacking other countries in its interest.

Baidu is more successful than google because they offer a much better product for the Chinese. The same with ebay, amazon or yahoo which were beaten by Chinese competitors that offer better localized products.

Are you kidding? Which foreign bank has large market share in China? There is no foreign banks that are dominant in China now. Even HSBC has very small market share in China. Banks are different than other internet companies. Even in Canada and the US, if some foreigners want to become a majority owner of a bank, they need to get approval from the government. It is unlikely that any foreign bank will become dominant in China or the US.

Google

You can choose what to believe in but remember it is not necessary the truth.

I strongly believe that Google Mail had been hacked by China and as well by US, Britain and India but under the name of “anti-terrorism”.

Do you know why the encryption standard of household network router is 256 bit now and 128 bit before? It is because it has been regulated by the government to ensure the intelligent agency can effectively crack the encrypted data when it wishes to do so.

If you don’t have background knowledge, you won’t be able to look at an issue from different perspectives, and you can only make your judgment solely based on the “news report” which has been always the most effective tool of propaganda in human history.

Even if you are doing researches, you can still find them using Baidu, as long as these foreign websites do not contain those censored materials. Most users are not affected that much without those pornographic or politically sensitive materials.

Now with google leaving, Baidu and other Chinese search engines can further improve their search technology and gain market share.

Do you know how Baidu differentiate itself in China to other search engine such as google or yahoo?

Don't waste time reasoning, just focus on the fact:
How many LYK, HongKonger, people outside China would use Baidu
as their default searching machine? or trust it at all? not me.
Baidu differentiates from it competitions that is is fully endorsed and
supported by CCP,  its very mission is to monopolize and control the
Information world, and the huge profit would be a nice bonus.
Baidu is the kind of mighty gigantic propaganda machine Hitler would
had dreamed for, should he had the Baidu, the victory would belong
to the Third Reich.
Trying to search for the history of CCP on Baidu, you must be kidding.
The  sole purpose of history  and society is to serve THE PARTY, 6O
years after they took over the regime, they yet to come up with a firm
history of their own. Only in China, history is subjected to twist and
re-written  to satisfy the small group in power.

Most of the questions I search on Baidu are not available,
anything to do with 6.4,  and whatever the CCP feels ashame of.

There was an interview on Premier Wen by CNN reporter,
Wen said, hopefully, in 30 years , our party would eventually evolved to the
world standard in term of democracy.
I don't think you could search that on Baidu

A true modern country should allow its citizen access to:
According to Premier Wen, most of us will not live to
witness a modern China.

HOW FOOLISH AND IGNORANT YOU ARE. No wonder you can be fooled easily.

First, how the search engines work, great China firewall and censorship on web contents are 3 different things and 麥莊莊 had mentioned how they works already. 麥莊莊, would you mind to educate this guy? I am sick and tired to continue educating him.

Second, Google lost to Baidu for legitimate reasons. Chinese Internet users make their own choice of which engine to use. Baidu is not the only search engine available in China. Will you tell us that the CPP forces the Chinese people must use Baidu?

In addition, who is buying Baidu’s stock on NASDAQ? I guess you must say – IT IS CPP who wants to defeat Google on the stock market.

HOW STUPID!

PS: What I said are facts, but not reasoning.

First, whether overseas Chinese like you use Baidu or not is irrelevant and insignificant to the success of Baidu over Google in China.

Second, people buy a particular stock because they believe in the value, potential and the future of the stock. People who put their hard-earned money into Baidu already make their own judgement and choice. Will you tell us that the CPP can force the American people to buy Baidu’s stock?

Third, you should ask 麥莊莊 to give you a private lesson on the topics of search engine, great China firework and censorship on web contents. Without having the understanding of these basic concepts, you are just BSing without knowing what you are BSing about.

You enjoy embarrassing yourself and I won’t mind to continue watching.

That's not the point. People are not discussing google or Baidu is better. People are saying that Baidu and other Chinese search engine will take market share from google and they will never regain the market share from them. This is a victory for the Chinese IT industry and the consumers because foreign search engines affect the security of China.
