32  (1) An employer must ensure

(a) that no employee works more than 5 consecutive hours without a meal break, and

(b) that each meal break lasts at least a 1/2 hour.

(2) An employer who requires an employee to work or be available for work during a meal break must count the meal break as time worked by the employee.

I guess people only want to see what they want to see and ignore the rest. Yes, the law says employees are entitled to meal breaks, but it also provides the option for employers to require employees to work through the meal break and it needs to be counted as work time.

How many time do I have to repeat that? The law must allow rooms for adjustment and there are many situations that is necessary for employees to work through their meal breaks (will the employers break the law if they ask you to do so?) If you do not understand that, then I have nothing to say except tell you to call the labour board for confirmation.

If a company can't even pay their worker at 28HKD, it should just close its doors.  End of story.
If costs of living cannot be earned by working, some forms of social assistance will be needed to make ends meet for the workers.  And who is paying for these?  Taxpayers. What they are doing is just to shift their business costs to taxpayers.
In our case, it is even worse.  This company makes huge profit, but scam their employees and ask for corporate welfare with a straight face.

But the bad publicity is going to costs them alot more.  And It is just bad business sense.  Very stupid management.  There is better ways to milk the employees, just let go a few workers and have 2 employees works for 3 people work.  Unpaid overtime, uniform cleaning costs, late for work penalty, cash retainer for cashiers, trial work, no pay training.  There is a million ways to do the same thing and no one would question them.

There is an Chef position opened DT Vancouver    for a mid range restaurant
80 K per annum plus benefit to start.
Requires the qualification I mentioned yesterday,
    Red Seal cert etc.
I've been teaching Red Seal Program for 15 years.    Head-Hunting Agencies charge the employers 20-30% of the
    chefs'  annual salary.
