I was listening to an analysis yesterday, and it seems to make quite a lot of sense. Essentially, the lawyers warning only amounts to a gag order against the press and a scare tactic on the general public. The ridiculous thing with slander/libel cases in HK is, the moment the "victim" files a lawsuit on it, any further media reporting on the case may also get the media company into part of the slander/libel accusation. That is to say, once Superman Lee+x started suing Father Law for slander, if Fruit Daily quotes Father Law's original comment again in its reporting of the lawsuit, Fruit Daily might very well be named as part of the defendant in the slander lawsuit as well.
I personally find this to be rather ridiculous since newspapers have the social duty to report on news incidents that are of interest to the public. If they can't even quote the original sources in their reporting, then it just makes no sense. But for a lot of the newspapers, they don't want to go through the trouble of a lawsuit even though nothing might come out of it at the end. But with 肥佬黎, the only good thing about him is that he won't stop/censor his editors' articles simply out of fear of getting sued.

Or, it is the tactic of Li+x to stop the media form quoting it. He just file a lawsuit and let it stand for a no of years and withdrawn it. Soon people will forget it.作者: Lik 時間: 2010-11-9 16:48
