Be the first to Comment 0 Recommendation(s) LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) - There are closures on three highways this morning.
Highway 1:
A landslide has shutdown the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 between Rosedale and Hope.
Kim Seale in the News1130 Air Patrol says this is an area notorious for slides. "Any given year, there are two to three slides in that area. It always develops after some freezing and thawing... The rock up there is like peanut brittle; it just sort of breaks off and chips off, and you get piles of it coming across the road."
Drive BC is hoping to have the eastbound lanes reopened by noon, although there's no guarantee. Traffic is being rerouted along Highway 7 through Agassiz.
Highway 5:
The Coquihalla Highway is closed to northbound traffic just south of Merritt due to an earlier accident. Drive BC is expecting to re-open the route at 8:30 a.m.
Highway 99:
The Sea to Sky Highway has re-opened to traffic north of Horseshoe Bay after a small landslide at Eagle Ridge Bluffs earlier this morning.
