作者: bubu127    時間: 2011-3-3 18:51     標題: 火 @ T&T!!

I was lining up at the express lane to pay at T&T. The till clearly says 6 items or less. I only had two items. However, the big6 woman in front of me had a buggy full of things. I couldn't count exactly how many items were in their buggy, but seconds later her husband showed up and threw in more items in the buggy. I told the couple that this lane is 6 items or less only, you have way more items here. Their reply was that they have two people so they can buy more. WTF?

What's even more frustrating, the cashier rang in all of their items, a total of 15!!!! So I asked the cashier is it that if you bring along a person you can line up at 6 items or less till and buy 12 items? 3 people can buy 18 and so on? How is that fair to the people lining up who actually have less than 6 items? The cashier said yeah they have two people so it's okay. But I said all 15 items were on the same bill, and you're telling me it's okay?? The cashier did not apologize, she just said it's okay because they have two people!! What's worse, she made a double count on one of my items, so in the end I have to line up at customer service to get my refund!!!

At the end I went to the customer service to make my complaint (and get my refund at the same time). The manager told me that the cashier shouldn't have rang in the items for that couple. I've told her so many times there are people who ignore signs and line up at express lanes when they have 15-20 items, and your cashiers do not care. So why bother setting up express lanes?

the casher didn't know what to do... she just let them rang it all in.... in 2 bills (I think the girl wanted to pay her own bill)

when a cashier has a situation like this on the express line, he/she supposed to kindly explain to the person who exceeds the item limit. Either the person reduces the purchasing items or he has to go to another line-up. Any uncooperative situation which the cashier could not handle should forward to the customer service manager via the cashier's telephone. I think this applys to most retail stores like (save-on foods 15 items)/ superstores (12 items).

sometimes I think even the floor staff who collects the buggys/carts can be more alert.. if they see customers who have tons of items lining at an express lane they could kindly tell them other cashiers will be happy to serve you but this is reserved for people with less items..

and the cashier really shouldn't rang in the items for these people who abuses the rule.. it's just lets them keep doing it!

Thank about it in this way.
The couple may split the transaction into two. The waiting time may longer.
I think, the cashier may get another complant if she don't let the couple pay at that moment.
If you were the cashier, what action did you take?

On the other hand, have you talked to the couple as well?

We were loading grocery up to the track, the cashier saw us and greeted us. Then this lady (looks like south Asian) had just a bottle drink, walked pass us and put her drink right in front of all our item on the track. and guess what? the cashier acutally picked it up and scan it for her!! well, her whole transcation took maybe less than a minute, but still the cashier let people cut into line like this!!! and when it came to our turn, the cashier just smiled to us and said, "people are liked that, she maybe in a rush!@!@"

the point is that the cashier told me they have two people and it's OKAY (note: they did not split bills). The cashier did not apologize too! The manager said the cashier shouldn't have said that, you can't buy more than 6 items unless you split the bill with another person.

I can see why more and more people started abusing the express lanes because of these ignorant cashiers; but mostly it's the customers who are being inconsiderate.

There was a time where I was at save on foods when the exact same thing happened, and the cashier turned down the customer and asked him to line up at the other lane before he could load all his items on the belt!

This is Canada. Lots of CBC don't know how to speak Chinese at all, and some only dialects like Toisanese.

It  was the MC woman pretended that she does not understand
the sign printed in Traditional Chinese, and insisted that she
would have her way since she is a paying customer. I do not speak
proper Mandarin, but I have no problem communicating with
my clients and students. So it is not language problem, it is the
attitude and ignorance.

hahaha, when Hong Kongers looked down on mainlanders. Now you expect them treat you the same, especially when you can't speak Mandarin properly.

If you want other people respect you, then you need to respect others first. Looking down on other people will do you no good.

I think they are actually required to do so by their employer. Most of the cashiers are just not doing it accordingly. The same thing happened to my mom and I a couple months ago at the T&T in metrotown. A couple buying more 40 items were lining up at the express line. My mom and another lady were lining up behind them and started talking about it. The couple then started yelling and threatened to beat them. My mom yelled back saying "You dare to...blah blah blah...". To my surprise, that man really rushed over trying to beat my mom. A staff stopped him doing so and apologized to us saying the cashier shouldn't have checked them out.

The managerment only doing is apologize to you , they never talk to the cashier
作者: fongparker    時間: 2011-9-12 17:16

Good for you to have complained it to the Manager.

I have the same experience like yours two months ago in Metrotown express line as well.

That big 6 woman held >6 items in front of me in the same line, and I spoke to her in polite way: OH, you got more than 6 items here, you should go to another line.

Afterward, she ignored me, and start counting her stuffs. 1..2..3..4..5.. and then group some of her vege into the same bag, and said: I.. only 6. I felt angry with that. If she say "sorry, I didnt realise that", I will just simply let go, but her attitude was extremely ridiculous.

the Culture Revolution affected the mid-age ppl damn much!!!!

This really has nothing to do with Hong Kong. T&T is owned by Loblaw group, a Canadian company.  But most workers there came from China and they show little respect for other customers who are not one of them. It does not matter if your ethnicity is Chinese, so long as you are not from Mainland China, they discriminate against you by letting their Mainland Chinese 老乡, 同乡 to jump the queues. It happened to me so many times, that I now shop only at Korean supermarkets, Safe-on, Langley Market and Costco.

If the Loblaw Group want to retain customers, they should seriously to educate their dai-luk workers not to screw non-Mandarin speaking customers.
