Richmond Takifugu. Sake.

Tojo's food is kind of fusion; the owner is trying to please the white guys. I guess after you have tried the Japanese restaurant in Japan, tojo is just a joke.

Takifugu's menu doesn't have many choices. honestly, the prices of their appetizer, sashimi, .....etc is not considered to be expensive at all when I compare the price with the japanese restaurant in dt.

I haven't tried Takifugu yet, and I don't see them offer (Puffer fish) in their menu.

I don't think Puffer fish can legally be served in Canada (at least that's what a Japanese chef told me). It's true that Takifugu doesn't have a lot of selections as fusion restaurants tend to have more variety. So I guess it depends which one people prefer.

Takifugu and Hachi is ok, but not the service lor!

If you want to eat good food at Takifugu, you don't order off the menu.
The menu is for the new comers.  You go to the chef bar and tell the main chef that you want the REAL sushi, price doesn't matter, then you will get the good stuff.  Don't ask price too, so you look cool.

Those sushi is about 6 to 15 each, and they are good stuff.

There is no more real sushi from Japan. They have reached a point where there is no more innovation. Same old boring cheap stuff from Japan.

I am not challenging you guys rather than gathering more information. He's talking about (sushi), and you're talking about (sashimi). That's totally different in the japanese restaurant category.

a $15 sashimi is pretty cheap

but a $15 sushi is ridiculously expensive

most sushi are just made of sashimi with rice. It really up to what you or chef decided in terms of the type of fish/seafood and the quality of it. You can have rice on any of those expensive sashimi for lots of money.

I think you're talking about Shima-Ya on Victoria/41st.  They have fresh sashimi from Jap every Thursday.

Sushiyama has cheap/casual sushi.
Charcoal offers a lot of different sushi/rolls.
Tokyo John has decent regular sushi & offers brown rice sushi.
Takifugu is for chu-toro/o-toro.
Hachi/Ajisai has fresh sashimi.
Kura offers seasonal sashimi.
Shiro has cheap lunch box.
Kingyo has decent lunch set.
Suika is the new fusion favorite in town.
Ebisu on Robson has consistent hot food.
Nan-Chuu's modified fusion menu has lots of variety, good for late nite snack.
Zakkushi is for skewers.
Octopus Garden has surprising Omakase.
Aki has traditional/hard-to-find appy.
Miku has good kanpachi & aburi sushi.

So it really depends on what you are after......

Really, I'm the other way around. I think Seto is just so so and kinda overpriced. However, I have been to Applause for a long time already so quality may have changed. I now go to Ichiro more often and I really like it ^^

Seto is under so so, easily $200 for two. The Hamachi sashimi & Uni which we had wasn't in decent condition. The tempura stuff was just a little bit oily. The clams was pretty tasteless, the only appetizer which give me a good memory was the Chawanfukahire. However, their so-called fresh oysters were very stinky. Kanpachi was pretty firm, or a little bit too firm & dry as well. Mirugai & Amaebi were okay.
