I am wondering if utilities is not included in the rental of one bedroom for one person
does anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost for hydro, internet and stuff?

it really depends wor...
If it's a 1 bedroom of an apartment unit vs 1 bedroom in a basement suite (old house/newer house). the range of hydro is big.
internet... it depends on if u get a deal from the provider... (it can be as low as $20 a month)
tv cable? (could be down to $0 or up to $100 depending on how many and which provider)

oh I don't watch TV lol
so I don't need that

all I need is a computer and dvd player

hmmm...........what is the range for one person?

why don't you find a place which rent includes utilities?
my cousin is renting a bedroom in a Richmond townhouse, he's paying $500/month, all inclusive.

would be great if everything is included~~
but I just want to do some calculation of cost just in case if the ideal place does not include utilities

which are are you looking for?
he used to live near Garden City and Granville, $600 no bathroom + $50 utilities.
despite he has signed a 6 month lease with the landlord, the landlord emailed him on Jan 14, asked him to move out at the end of Jan, because landlord is going to sell the place. I have told him to ask for compensation, because the landlord can't end the tenancy before Mar 6 ( 6 months from Sep 6). the landlord has to give him 2 months notice and 1 month free rent. My cousin was forced to move out on Feb 6. He has filed a claim in RTO now.
then his classmate's home had a vacant room at that time, $500 including utilities, with his own bathroom (shower, sink and toilet) near Westminster Highway and Garden City, he's better off now...
becareful when you sign anything. I guess the landlord in his 1st stay just came from china, and not familiar with the RTA.....it's really bad, back in Jan 14, it was -5, where can my cousin go if the other room is no available?

Just warning about... having pets in rental isn't as easy...
I had problem finding rental with my 2 cats back then (a long while ago) I got so frustrated that I decided to look and buy my own place after.

Yeah, it's very common that landlords won't welcome smokers, pet owners (fish is usually ok though

), and people who have babies or kids.

I see. So it may not be too hard to find a place for a single girl.

I think it's better to find a place that includes utilities already in the rent. OR they charge a fix utility charge on top of the rent. It's really hard to budget otherwise.

my driving instructor just told me he has a friend that has place available and the location sounds pretty good to me, and seems like the owner has not too much of a problem for me to have my doggies visiting sometimes~~

I will go check it out and see see~~

ended up still looking

house owner was very nice
but his wife gave me kinda uncomfortable feeling........+_+

by the way, do you have a friend who wants to live with you? Because I kind of know someone's renting out a place but it's a two bed room suite near metrotown I guess not sure about all the details.
