Insite heads to Supreme Court of Canada today
Local foundation: It will shape Canada's future drug policy

The Dr. Peter Centre is one of the agencies making a case on Insite's behalf. Maxine Davis is the Executive Director of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and she's in Ottawa today, for a fight in court. http://www.drpeter.org/home/
She calls this a case that will fundamentally shape our country's future drug policy. "Are we going to criminalize people who inject drugs or are we going to care for them?"
"It seems that the federal government is so blinded by their 'tough on crime' bills that they'd be willing to trample on dead bodies to get what they want," she argues.
Davis says the latest study shows overdose deaths in the last two years are down by 35 per cent in the geographic area around Insite in the last two years and the high court's decision could potentially affect her organization, too.
"I can tell you the last thing I want to do... is to get to a point where we're not permitted to it anymore, and we just give people clean needles and say 'Okay -- out on the street,'" she explains.
