Me too looking for reliable handyman to take care of minor house reapiring jobs in Burnaby.
zuesel, you are an Interior Decorator.  Can you advise us of a modest town home renovation cost?
What is the cost of hiring an interior decorator?  Just some ideas.  Thanks.

Also, could you tell me what kind of repairing work you are looking for? Will probably end up having to talk with you in details.

Are you the Lois Wong?  Do you  have a website?  $50/hr seems very affordable.
First question:  Is it reasonable for a flooring company to charge a 15% wastage even though the area is smaller than their 12 ft lino roll width?

I tried to reply to your pm without success.

Yes, it's reasonable to charge 15%. Some even charge more!

if you cannot pm me, you could email [email protected]
the website is under construction.

$50 / hr is below the normal rate. Most decorators charge $100+ / hr.
This is a special for LYK members only for 2011. Shhhhhh.....Please keep this cost within LYK la.

No I don't think its' reasonable to charge 15% waste when there's no waste.  I'll see if it is legal.

If there's no waste, then of course, shouldn't have charges. But if you are needing to eg: change your flooring, throwing out your old floor materials then yes, be prepared to have charges.

Some contractor, instead of giving you a clear break down, will give you a lump sum estimate. This can already include the waste disposal charge within. Just ask your contractor for information and reason for the charges. Ask him for options to reduce cost. (a professional contractor will give you details).

My kitchen width is less than the 12 ft width roll.  They charged 15% more for waste.  This company is not honest.  They also charged me $150 extra for disposal without me agreed to it!  Where can you find a honest business anymore?  I've learn my lesson.  I don't trust anyone now.

Anyway, thank you zuesel for your valuable advises for my home decor and makeover with a small budget.  I already moved a few furniture around and I really like it.  Am looking forward to the makeover project.

Sorry bout your bad experience! Where did you find him?
Any contractor who doesn't make you sign anything or doesn't give you details of cost is bad bad bad!!! lots of times, they appear to be inexpensive but will end up charging more in the process. By that time, it's too late for you to say no. So the project ends up the same, if not more than a professional!

Fong, I'm glad you liked my consultation! Pls take some pics and email me once you get a chance! Do let me know if you need help finding contractors/handyman...
