Walk-in clinic doesn't have your past record. If you are a chronic patient, that would create quite a big problem.

Walk-in: no need to make appointment and can go right away, line up is needed.
Family doc: even appointment is made, some waiting time is still needed. Even worse, sometime they said they're full for the day and you have to go another day.

Walk-in: no previous record for your first visit.
Family doc: theoretically they should read your previous record before seeing you each time. But many of them didn't do that and act dumb in front of you each time like you're the first time being there.

For urgent case, go to emergency la. (Well, still need to wait for long in most cases though ;b)

Doesn't walk-in clinic keep a history of you?

I am lucky that my family doctor is NOTHING like that... LOL
I never wait more than 15 min at my family doc with my appointment time and she sure remembers me. Sometimes, we actually talk about non-medical stuff during my visit.

Well, have a family doctor is better in the long run.
When you have problem, it's much easier to get your family doctor to get you a referral to a specialist vs a walk-in clinic.
Also... it's hard to get a walk-in clinic doc to write an ICBC injury report for you. Even when you are acutally in pain.

I was hit by a car while cycling, and the doctor at walk-in clinic actual told me to get out, and doesn't want to see me. (Didn't even brother to ask how are you). Sad.

I have to asked him to get me a shot ( you know, the kind when you cuts on you skin). I thought that is a normal procedure

Walk in or not no different.  My husband went to clinic when he didn't wait.  Clinic keeps records.  They has to send to your doctor though.  Your doctor gets mad.

really cant judge if a practitioner at a walk-in is better or worse than one with their own clinic. because some just dont want to deal with the administrative work.

I think most of us are still "young" and don't have any serious problem.
So we may think the walk-ins and family dr are the same.
But when you start aging or getting anything serious (even for early stage), I think it's better to go with your family dr.
a fever or a headache can mean a lot more than just a fever or headache...
so family dr or emergency may be a better way to go.

If you keep seeing the same doctor in the same walk in clinic, then that dr is your family doctor who keeps all your records.  I understand most GP are not taking new patient now a day.  So where else to find your own family doctor?  Clinic doctors just share office with other doctors I think.  No?

My family doctor of over 30 years still don't remember I still have my ovaries after a hysterectomy!
My mother visited her family doctor few times a month for her mummy ache for a whole year in 2010 and then she died of cancer of the stomach lining within weeks in the hospital in May 2011.

Sorry but trust me.  Don't trust your doctor.
Go to the ER if you need to. Don't mind the wait.  Hospital staffs are very good.

I think it depends on the doctor, whether he/she is family doctor or walk-in clinic doctor. Some are definitely better (more detail oriented, more patient ... etc) than others.

This.

My grandma's doctor also never discover her problem (complain about pains, no appetite) until it's too late and my grandma died while sleeping one day.

Don't trust your doctor, if they refused to find out what's wrong, go to hospital instead.
