VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The BC Medical Association wants anesthesiologists to keep their concerns out of the media.
Yesterday, an anesthesiologist called for a coroner's inquest into the death of a newborn at Victoria General Hospital.
Dr. Sue Ferreira wants high-risk hospitals like Surrey Memorial to have an anesthesiologist available at all times for expecting mothers.
"Yesterday's news story linking a baby's death to the lack of availability of an anesthesiologist only serves to alarm expectant mothers and fathers," said BCMA President Dr. Nasir Jetha in a news release.
"Clearly, the death of the baby in Victoria is tragic and should be investigated. But the place to raise this issue should not be the evening news, it should be at the hospital."
