VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver schools are moving away from sending bulletins home with kids and instead turning to smartphones to get messages to parents. And that means kids are running out of options when it comes to lying about a snow day or hiding a report card from mom and dad.
The Vancouver School Board is putting out an app that sends that type of information directly to parents' smartphones.
District Superintendent Steve Cardwell says it's a new idea. "It's probably one of the first, if not the first in Canada. I think Toronto might have an application as well, but I think this is one of the first and we're excited to be launching it."
He adds it's perfect to relay information as quickly as possible. "Actually it's an [idea] that I've been interested in for quite a while as the world of social media and apps has grown."
