Despite what many believe, there is a lot of money in Vancouver. Visit Holt Renfrew, Harry Rosen, Louis Vuitton (the largest one in Canada) and you’ll find they are full of shoppers ready to plunk down thousands of dollars to get the latest high end fashions. This reputation hasn’t gone unnoticed and has convinced the world’s biggest outlet mall developer McArthurGlen to come to Vancouver. The plan is to build a 340,000 square foot outlet mall that will have the world’s leading fashion brands all in one place.
The mall will also contain a movie theatre. This is the first such project in North America for McArthurGlen and it’s coming to Sea Island.
The Vancouver Airport Authority is currently in talks with London-based developer McArthurGlen to bring a premium outlet centre to Sea Island (Vancouver Airport Authority has control over Sea Island). The site of the proposed Sea Island outlet mall is next to the BCIT campus on Russ Baker Way.
YVR board of directors are expected to finalize the plan by June. Once finalized it will bring more jobs and is expected to become a destination shopping centre. Will it lure those that frequent the Seattle Premium Outlets? Only time and cost of items will tell, however, keep in mind that this development in Vancouver is expected to be far more upscale than the outlets in Seattle.
This project is just one of many slated for Sea Island. Also on tap are preliminary plans to build a 250-room hotel and business park near Templeton Station. A new 700,000 square foot Canada Post facility is also under construction. That is expected to be complete by 2014.
Some of the McArthurGlen retailers are:
- Armani
- Ballantyne
- Blumarine
- Bottega Veneta
- Brioni
- Bruno Magli
- Bulgari
- Burberry
- Calvin Klein
- Costume National
- Dolce & Gabbana
- Ermenegildo Zegna
- Escada
- Etro
- Façonnable
- Fendi
- Frette
- Gucci
- Hugo Boss
- Kenzo
- Lancel
- La Perla
- Marni
- Missoni
- Moncler
- Mulberry
- Paul Smith
- Polo Ralph Lauren
- Prada
- Roberto Cavalli
- Sergio Rossi
- Tommy Hilfiger
- Trussardi
- Valentino
- Versace
On the map below you can see that it will be located near Gilbert Road and Russ Baker Way, right next to BCIT Aerospace campus.

Spending power of Vancouverite have improved.. but I don't know if it's to the point that merits a dedicated high end mall... I don't mind it... just hoping that they won't fold up too quickly after they open up tho....

Beside the locals, I am sure it's targetted for those weatlthy from Mainland China. As far as I can see. Many more cities in China will continue to growth for years to come. Their people in needs of finding a place to go outside of China will continue to increase. If the numbers of immigrants from Taiwan and Hong Kong are making a different to Vancouver years ago. You can see how much more it's going to change by our wealthy Chinese from Mainland.
They can also partner with travel agency as a must go location for tourist.
Unless something happen to China, I think Vancouver will continue to grow in terms of $$$$. Yet, it will become less affordable for those who don't already have the money to afford a house. High rent, small space, limited income. Since many of the sectors that growth would be restaurants and retails, which dont' necessary pay well.
Yet, if this is the directions Vancouver is heading, it also means more opportunities to run your own business, and make a decent income.

如果主攻內地客人,市場定位就錯了。
玩 high end 玩得出色,除了夠子彈外,亦講求品味喔。
