So here is your freedom, you cannot even choose to not attending school although you obviously can get A without attending.
The only way for her to not get prosecuted was to drop out of school and not graduate... but she wanted to graduate and get into university so she stayed in school but skipped it when she got too exhausted after works/homeworks and studying.

And now ironically, she will get a criminal record for the rest of her life and no one will ever hire her no matter how smart and hardworking she is.
Here is the American system some of you all try to copy to Hong Kong and China. The system some of you claim is better than the Hong Kong system.

美國有12年免費教育，過18歲要自己受了

Not all jobs need criminal check. She can apply for expunge criminal records in the future.

The real issue is not about school, but she has been warned by the Judge and she ignored the warning.
