If your older dryer (presumably electric type) is 3 prong 240VAC 30A type whereas your newer one (from your townhouse) is 4-prong (nicknamed "14-30") electric dryer type, your best bet is to either get a licensed electrician to retro your older dryer to run on 4-prong (new standards, since 1997), or get a plug adapter:
The newer dryer usually run on 240V (4-prong). I bet your townhouse only have a 120V (3-prong) outlet, and your non-licenced home renovator just connect your 240V dryer to 120V outlet. So, your dryer does not have enough power to run and it takes forever to dry your load.
This is just my guess. I would suggest you to hire a licensed electrician to have a look at it. If your dryer is really run on 240V, and your townhouse has no 240V outlet, the only person who can help you is a licensed electrician.作者: kimball 時間: 2013-7-15 17:04
The other possible cause for long drying time is clogged up exhaust pipe (the tube that takes moisture from your dryer to the outside). Use a bright flash light and take a good look inside the tube - you may find a lot of fabrics and fibres from your clothings that's stopping the moisture from going out. If your exhaust tube is long, you may need to go outside and take a look from the other end. I also noticed that many washer and dryer malfunction because it is not maintained properly such as cleaning the ducts and filters.
If it is a front load washer/dryer, you need to check the level and adjust the height as needed.

thanks everyone input.
I will get a licensed electrician to take a look and hope the problem can be fixed. I worry about the electrician is not willing / unable to move the washer and dryer which has stacked up already. The sockets are behind the machines and there's no room to slip inside except pull them out. That's one of the reason I asked my renovation guy to do it. I thought it was a small job (just switch the stuffs and plug-in), at the end I paid $400 though and everything is so screwed up!
