Three-storey New Westminster apartment building collapses after being gutted by fire (with photos)
METRO VANCOUVER - An early morning fire has caused an apartment building to collapse in New Westminster, and according to radio reports no one has been injured.
Fire crews are working to put out the blaze at the three-storey complex at Fourth Avenue and Ash Street.
The fire broke out at around 1:30 Friday morning, possibly in a second floor suite in the three storey building near Moody Park.
Flames quickly tore through all the units, leaving firefighters with little option but to protect neighbouring buildings, with another apartment just metres away.
The burning structure collapsed just after five a.m.
Firefighters from Delta and Burnaby joined New Westminster fire crews to help keep the blaze from spreading to the older three storey apartments in the mainly residential area.
There are no immediate reports of injuries and a cause has not been determined.
