My aunt is complaining that i drive like a guy (or she said "mannish" >_<) because i drive with one hand on the wheel. She is making drastic changes to adjust my "bad habit"... she's saying some rather hurtful things like "If you continue to drive like that, you will not meet a good husband or a good boyfriend!" or things like "You won't get anywhere driving like that!" and she strictly insists me to drive with both hands on 10 and 2...

I am just curious... do you girls drive with one hand on the wheel? Many of my girl friends either drive with two hands (only at the bottom of the wheel) and i don't see a lot of girls driving with one hand...

if u drive auto .. then drive with one hand .. if u drive with manual .. drive with 2 hands .. if you drive SUV .. drive with 3 hands .. oops...

Well...I eat, drink and drive a manual....so how many hands do I need? I use my knee to hold the steering wheel sometimes too...oops

Honestly, I don't see a problem with driving with one hand IF you can hold your steering wheel steady! I mean when you hit a pot hole or puddle of water, etc at high speed...you should be strong enough to hold the wheel tight. That's if you drive fast. If you drive in Vancouver or Richmond...LOL...one hand is more than enough la

If you drive with only 1 hand on your steering wheel... during driving test... you won't pass.
But after that.. haha who cares.

Well old/older ppl always say silly things like that... My mom used to say that I should have picked a red car... cos that's for girls... Well, I got a black car.

I think a girl drives with one hand is ok. But if your left hand is located at 12 oclock position, and right hand is on your passager seat's "shoulder", and your head is tilted to the right... then i think that's "manish" la..

Actually, driving a bright colour car is a good idea because you're more visible to other drivers. Like riding a motorcycle, make yourself as visible as possible, hence high beam on even during the day, wear bright colours, get a sharp looking bike

Imagine if you drive a white or grey car in Edmonton or something in the winter...you blend in with the snow...

No need to care about other ga wor! Many Rmd "C9" (or simply any "C9") do use their two hands on the wheel, yet I don't see they can drive any better! (sorry to offend any "C9"....... ) If you are confident and of course skillful enough, you can use one hand or two hands on wheel, on top, 10 . 2 position, 9 . 3 position, only one side in any degree, or on the very bottom even resting on your lap..... , just being considerate to others and use your own way of safe driving!

(after passing the driving test.... hehe

However I wonder, why can't gals drive with one hand only? i don't see why that is only a guy's patent wor! Moreover, don't be silly that it's an issue related to looking for a bf! Might be some handsome guys just love this type of gals! Haha..........

i actually was required to drive with one hand for 15 minutes when i had my road test coz the examiner wants me to use my left hand to do the signal instead of using the electronic signal. he said he wanted to make sure that even my electronic signal is broken, i can still signal properly by hand. thus, tell your aunt you must practice to drive with one hand so you can handle the emergencies properly. and my hubbie loves me as much doesn't matter i drive with one hand or not.

one hand two hands... totally not important. the important thing is whether you can have full control of your car. if one hand is all you need, then that's all you need. how can this even be related to getting a good husband or not? i really doubt any guys care whether their gf or wife drives with one hand or not, as long as they can drive safely.

I drive with one hand on the wheel no matter auto or manual, maybe sometimes when i make turns i use 2 hands
and of course, driving manual i don't have the third hand to keep 2 hands on the wheel...
i even tried driving with my knees and my car gets me back to my home everyday
so... no matter how many hands, it still gets you to somewhere

P.S. i am a girl as you asked in your question

Total non-sense, what a bunch of crap from you aunt.
I don't see anything wrong with a girl driving with one hand, it's just....what are you doing with the other hand while you drive that matters. (e.g. smoking? if so, that's bad, but still that personal preference)

I'm a guy, 80% of time, I drive with two hands, on 3 and 9 o'clock position. my right hand only leave the steering wheel when I shift the gear (manual trans). If you think drive with two hands means noob/ no skill, then you are the one with no skill. And you could also tell if they know how to drive by their driving position, many ppl sitting too far back.

Ask your aunt, see if she sees any handicapped people can only has one hand driving safely without any accident happens (despite their vehicles are specially geared, they can only has one hand on wheels anyways.).

Why do you need to "drive with both hands when there's a cop nearby"? It's not a law, I don't think you will get a ticket because you only have one hand on the steering wheel. LOL
But I believe if you are in good driving position, you have bigger chance to avoid accidents.

More importantly, you should have a "clear mind"! See how many people (especially some seniors) do use their both hands on wheel at 10 . 2 or 9 . 3 position, but just step on gas instead of brake during critical moments and thus accidents happened.

i think you aunt is just bugging you because some older C9 doesn't feel safe when both hands are not on the wheel. like, my mom would nag me if she sees me driving with one hand. but of course, she doesnt give me that sh!t about bf/husband philosophy lah.

c9 think it's safer to drive with both hands, have more control wor.. if it's a safety thing that ur aunt talks about, i won't argue with her. but it has absolutely nth to do with finding husband lor. just like my tutor used to say i've ugly handwriting like guys. then i said nowadays guys and girls are equal. then she never made any comments on my handwriting again.

ha ha....... I drive with one hand too. I need my right hand to eat, drink and do make up in the car. My hands are too occupied that I can't drive with two hands! Occasionally, I drive with my knee, and drinking a 1L slurpee with both of my hands, ha ha

If your aunt still bug you with this stupid reason, just tell her "I don't care whether I will get a husband or bf". See what she will say, ha ha

Wow, I drive with both hands, one hand, it just depends on what I'm feeling at that time and how comfortable I am driving that way. I think your aunt is just trying to freak you out on your getting a bf or husband. You can drive however you want as long as you know you are safe. Parents/older people who are more traditional I would say always use the "you won't ever get a husband" thing whenever you don't listen to them and they want to get their way no matter what. In this case, 'patience is a virtue'. ^^

yesterday i drove with one hand when my aunt is still in the passenger seat anyway... she still nags on and on about stuff but i just kept quiet about it.... i am too lazy and too tired to argue with her but still drives with one hand and that's about it. my parents don't even NAG about it!!!

i just can't wait when she finally buys a car for herself and stop nagging me. I think when a new driver becomes a car owner, gradually over time she will tends to drive with one hand la... haha

Ask her to take a taxi next time! Advantages are: 1. express your annoying feeling; 2. let her try to ask the taxi driver to drive in two hands, see how the driver react!

my friend leaves his hand on the shifter.... but when he sneezed... he accidentally shifted to D2.... it was a shock for all of us passengers... esp. he had his license just recently....

My mom also nags me about driving one hand but for safety reasons. It's not "stable" to hold the steering wheel in case of accident. I think she got a point there. But I occasionally still like to drive on one hand and leave the other one on shifter.

(I'm driving auto though)

it depends on my driving speed and road condition, if u are going straight with no cars around, 1 hand is okay; but when u are going faster than average, thru a corner / traffic, better to stay two hands on your steering wheel!

there is nth like 9 and 3, 10 and 2 is the way to do it

ya, when I was a new driver, there's one time I had to tell my mom to shut up. cuz I can't concentrate on the road while she was nagging at me with all sorts of driving instruction. (It was SW Marine Drive where there are lots of curves)

I used to drive with 1 once in a while until 2 years, I always drive with 2 hands on the steering wheel whenever I can!

If you read any defensive driving books, or high performance driving books from professional drivers.., or going to Driver Education to learn how to drive...  One of the first thing you learn is how to seat and position your hand proper on the steering wheel.

Just know that driving with 2 hands has lots of benifits that can't be done when driving only with 1 hand.  By improving how to steer with 2 hands, if will give you a better chance to avoid an accident.

Many of us including myself thinks we can drive, indeed, in many cases the car is driving us.

I am sure we don't all want to be a professional drivers or something..., yet I think none of us would like to drive our love ones around, while driving with crappy driving skills which can be improved...!
