not just mainlanders. i think it's just nowadays, people are have more thick skin, wants face, & is too aggressive to advance. that's what the society is pushing towards. once they have a chance to move on, they'll take it, & step over you.

especially people from less developed countries/communities... so i think it's all about that, AND personality

I still remember a distant realtives years ago (when I was a kid)  swam from China to HK. He was caught by a snakehead and ask for a ransome. His father was in London. He manged to call us. My mom & dad paid and got him out. He then got HK ID card and began his new life. This guy, every Chinese New Year and big festivals, will visit us with gifts.

I don't know what have been lost in the last couple of decades.  For those new Big 6 imm who are under 40,there is a tendency they are lacking loyalty, virtues....... All those we valued so much in our old Chinese traditions.

Have you tried spend overtime to prepare or make something for these type of clients, they turned around and get your stuff to show your competitors to get a little bit discount. The problem is that they don't bother to tell you and pretend he never know you. Some of these guys were so shamless to ask you correct things for them after  their relatioship with the competitor turned sour.

My friend, you should be grateful that you know the real her in such a short period before you.......

Time changed la...
today 大陸人 ??  RICH RICH RICH .. CASH CASH CASH ..  always look down us, hongers ..

But what can we hongers do? we are just minority ..   they hv money, power, and they speak mandarin ..   Hongers?? we speak cantonese ja ..    people " know us mice " mei ..

Just example ..  15 yr ago, when I went 5 ave NY for shopping, when those sales saw me, a young chinese ..  they didn't really serve me much ..  even I asked for help ..  first thing they asked ( not as polite ) - " Oh, are you chinese?? or japanese ?? "  when I said " yes ..  I am chinese ..  "  then they will say " Ok ..  feel free to look around .. "  then walked away, not even wanted to deal with me ..

So ..  then when I was asked the same question, I said " I am from Hong Kong .. "  then those sales response change ..  much better .. and usually said " oh, HK ! nice place, so .. are you going to buy something?? bluh bluh bluh "

One time, my answer was " I am japanese ..  "   then I got world class service ..  ( again, 15 yr ago )

Back then, my uncle told me, most shop in NY, only liked Japanese clients (as asian) and didn't care chinese, since chinese wouldn't buy anything at all ..  Hongers and taiwanese ..  not bad at all ..

TODAY?? same thing, walk in to shopping area in 5 ave ..  some "mandarin" speaking sales will come appoach ..  as long as I told them I am just a hongers ..  I can tell from their faces ..  not smiling anymore ..    (those sales, are actually hongers most the time!)

It is same now no matter you go Japan .. HK .. NY .. Europe ..  as long as you speak mandarin ... and put your OVERSIZE LV wallet in you under arm .. you will get great service ..

What can we ( hongers ) do? pretend mainlanders ??  mainlanders are rich ... and powerful ( at least, that is what they think ) so they can speak loud .. and no need to be polite ...

Americans regularly pretend to be Canadians when they are abroad. Perhaps us HKers should identify ourselves as Mainland Chinese when we're abroad as well? That way, they'll know we're polite, and they'll think we're rich as well~

Mainlanders vs. Hong'ers vs. Taiwanese, the topic is always a taboo on a dinner table, let alone if you have a room of all visitors the "three shores". Interestingly, it is thoroughly known by many that the Chinese are the best at war - between themselves. on contrary, discrimination, differentiation, happens in the States and even locally. East Coast vs. West Coast, north vs. south. The difference is always first led by geographical. I have friends, acquaintances, from north to south of China. Personally, there are certainly differences in each aspects from where these guys are from, the culture they live from. But in preference of likeness, it is still boiling down to who you are, rather than where you from.  Deep down inside each of them is still this naked soul, and how they present themselves with ones character, value, and personality. The thought that a person in Beijing would be more distinct in feeling for me, than the one whose from HK? I wouldn't know. Perhaps that's the benefit of my lack of experience in residing in China, I wouldn't be able to catch up with the political side as one who has that burden of knowing such.
So wassup with those from Beijing?

totally agree of bluntbro said!

it's the person, not the race.
Always there r some good & some bad ppl in a region. I think we as a human race  should always bear in mind that culture differences need time & patience to get along & understanding more for each other...

This is a taboo I try to avoid whenever possible
but it is usually the mainlanders bring it up lor
so freaking annoying lor
and when they know me I understand Mandarin.....
haha, they are screwed.......

Most HK ppl can now speak Canto & mandarin, as well as English, of course

lately the issue of "where are you from?" has come up many times for me..

my husband and I were furniture shopping and some shops were owned by those from the mainland...my husband is taiwanese and and I am from HK. So whenever we enter a shop, they immediately speak mandarin and when they've heard mine or my husband's 口音, they would immediately ask us where we're from. if we say we're from TW...the sales usually leave us alone and tell us to take a look around. If we say we're from HK, they just walk away! but then another pair of customers come in, they are clearly from China and the sales run up to them and follow them and really sell hard!

I guess us TW and HKers aren't spending enough nowadays?
作者: pepsis2    時間: 2008-6-15 18:28

dun worry that much on those kind of stupid businessmen.. frankly what they did is just scare customers away...
if they don't wanna do TW/HK .. they're just limiting their source of customers...

nobody can't survive for only 1 pool of customers alone.
