The Bridal March (the slow one, "this whole scam victim, bonded forever after" in Cantonese) came from an opera whose storyline had the couple quarrelled the very first night, and broke up right after the wedding.

After reading the story I wonder why anyone would still use the music for his/her wedding.

If you are a Christian there is another reason not to use it: Wagner was one of the thought leaders of the anti-semetic movement and some characters of his operas were parodies of Jewish people.

The fast Wedding March, by Mendelssohn, came from Mid-Summer Night's Dream and was okay, that was a comedy and had a happy ending.

I find that a few weddings that i attended these years, they all use that Canon in D as marching song, I don't know who started it, but it's like, everybody's using Canon in D nowadays...
