and public transit is better for the environment, as if the roads in Vancouver is not congested enough

When I was in Taiwan this summer, I noticed that in the subway,

1.  Hardly anyone sat on the special seats.
2.  Most of time, people let others come out first before go in.
3.  No one eat ice cream or even eat anything hardly.

I should add #12 to little prince:
1.  Do not try to get in when the door is about to close.  Wait for the next train.

myversa,

I totally agreed your #12, as skytrain's door doesn't has the sensor, it would not automatically open if somebody got hit like MTR, so for your own safety please don't try to get in if the door is going to be closed.

the person living under a well is you.
what do you expect from ppl at that level?  you expect those uneducated lowlife to act like an upper class citizen or something??  well if they were, they wouldn't need to ride a skytrain.

what i'm trying to say is, you are entering their society by riding the transportation they take, and there is nothing you can do about it.  whining about these poor ppl being uncivilized isn't going to help, just live with it.

you should see how big the difference in demographic it is in hk just from riding on the Yau Ma Tei Line and the HK Island line.

I think the point Hyde is making is she (or he, really dunno) is she can afford the gasoline, the parking, & of course the timing to look for parking (or hire sb to valet parking or get a personal driver).... just to show off jar...

no offense, but even the richest person in the world, Warren Buffett (that crazy richest guy), will still take buses / public transit  & live in the houses he bought like 50 years ago when he's a poor bum... it's a personal choice to take public transit for many reason. Back in the day when the gas was extremely cheap & cars were affordable, still many chose to take transit for social reason (to flirt or to be flirted??? haha..), or what-so-ever.

I don't see a problem taking public transit, & really don't think having 搭乘 public transit 的 etiquette is anything wrong.

Aiya, at least Hyde is right that most people in Japan is really polite & considereated when they're taking subway & buses. I think we should learn from those Japanese in this area.

i've been strictly targeting the crimetrain...err skytrain as the transportation for bums.  what do you expect when you are riding with the lowest class citizen in the city?? you are lucky you didnt get robbed

the demographics is a huge difference for the people that take public transit in Vancouver compare to metropolis cities like HK, Tokyo, NYC....

the biggest advantage of mass transit rail is to reduce the time of travel compare to using a car.  this does not happen in vancouver, traffic is minimal compare to those places and parking is widely available anywhere.

Driving in Van is relatively cheap compare to HK, Tokyo and NYC.

If you can't afford a car in Van, I doubt you can afford a car in HK, Tokyo and NYC.

look like driving or not matters only with $$$... some of loyaukees just forget other factors what may make ppl drive / not drive, take skytrain / no take....

if u live near a skytrain station, & u work in downtown daily (near skytrain station as well)... I doubt why ppl still want to drive to downtown everyday even they got their own cars sitting in the garage.... for the traffic jam (time u spend on traffic jam in rush hour in downtown is no kidding business)???? or for the costly & not-so-safe parking spot?  or some other reasons???

just "oh b/c they can't afford driving so they have no choice but to take skytrain"
