Police identify nightclub stabbing victim

Police have identified Yau Aaron Chan, 25, as the victim of a stabbing at a downtown Vancouver nightclub over the weekend.

The victim got into a fight with another man outside the Atlantis Night Club on Richards Street just after 2 a.m., was stabbed and later died of his injuries, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Const. Jana McGuinness.

Police said they could not release any more details about the incident and would not say whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Police kept Richards Street closed around the Atlantis nightclub on Sunday after an overnight stabbing left one man dead.

A witness told Global TV he saw two men physically fighting each other outside the club.

Tammy MacDonald, who lives nearby, said she woke up in the middle of the night to a chorus of sirens from emergency vehicles.

"I'm not surprised," said MacDonald, when she heard there had been a stabbing.

"It's not so much the club that's the problem but these guys outside [on the street] afterwards. It worries me. It's right in your neighbourhood."

Another resident who lives at the corner of Davie and Richards said the crowds coming out of the club are often very loud on the weekends.

【明報專訊】在溫市中心Atlantis夜總會門外發生的兇殺案死者，證實為25歲的華裔陳佑綜，他在本地娛樂界頗有名氣，曾經參加Sunshine Boyz及新秀歌唱比賽奪亞軍，近年自組Hip Hop樂隊，去年更是樂隊第一次舉辦屬於自己的迷你演唱會，地點正好也是Atlantis夜總會。而有朋友透露，陳佑綜當時是參加女友的生日派對，事發的時候，他只是幫助涉及糾紛的朋友而被刺死。

案發於前日凌晨，事件懷疑因有人爭執演變成兇殺，警方昨日公布更多相關資料，指案中死者是居住列市的25歲華裔陳佑綜，他不是警方熟悉人士，也沒有犯案紀錄。警方懷疑事主可能在錯誤時間出現在錯誤地方，並取去附近監察攝錄機內影帶協助調查。

案發現場昨日擺放不少鮮花、汽球、祭品等悼念陳佑綜，陳的一名友好曾天沖昨日向媒體透露，死者是因為護友不幸成為「替死鬼」，當時是調停一名友好與3名南亞裔男子衝突時，無辜遇襲枉死，成為溫市今年第13宗兇殺案的死者。

曾天沖是透過當日在場目擊整件事件的朋友，知悉陳遇襲的經過，曾天沖說﹕「他(指陳佑綜)當時是調停友好被打，在推開其他人時，其他人見他最健碩，於是便以他為襲擊對象，他的友人當時被嚇呆，幫不到他，唯有致電救護車。」曾天沖談到陳佑綜的為人時，即時哽咽表示：「他很有音樂才華，對音樂很有熱誠，又是一名很出色的籃球健將。」

死者的另一名朋友Roger商皓翔，形容死者是一名大好人，非常熱愛幫人，身家清白，希望外界不要胡亂猜測(見另稿)。

昨日在現場有一張悼念卡上寫覑﹕「不應該發生的事情卻發生了，這是不公平和殘忍的，我們將會永遠懷念你。」而一名死者生前友人表示，經常與事主見面，事主心情開朗，經常笑面迎人，但事主卻不幸遇上這樣的事故，實在令人感到傷心。

溫哥華市警局發言人麥吉尼斯(Jana McGuinness)昨日表示，前日凌晨2時左右，在理查茲街(Richards St.)1320號Atlantis夜總會門外發生毆鬥，當時正是夜總會打烊時間，門外有很多客人。後來有一人被刺死，警方證實死者為陳佑綜(Yau Aaron Chan)，華裔，現年25歲，居住列治文。

警方稱，死者沒有犯案紀錄，也不是警方熟悉人士。警方稱事主是死於刀傷，並懷疑陳佑綜「是在錯誤時間在錯誤地方出現。」至於警方是否搜獲兇器，以及是否鎖定疑犯資料，警方則拒絕透露案件詳情。

警方事後帶走酒吧附近監察錄影機所拍攝下來的錄影帶作進一步調查，案中暫時無人被捕。而警方指出，案發時間正是酒吧關門時候，案發現場是酒吧門外，沒有資料顯示事故是在酒吧內發生，警方相信事故與酒吧無關。

親友哀傷不願多談

本報記者昨日前往陳佑綜生前寓所，看到不少親友到來慰問，屋內有一名華裔女士開門接待，且面露愁容。死者親友是否期望警方能夠將事故查個水落石出，以還給事主一個公道？該名女士以廣東話表示，案件已交由警方處理，現時不願多提。被問及親友何時為死者舉辦喪禮？該女子表示，因為現時有許多事需要處理，暫時不清楚。

A Richmond man has been identified as the victim of a stabbing outside a Vancouver nightclub Sunday morning.

Aaron Chan, 25, of the group Am3ition, was stabbed during an altercation between two groups of men outside Atlantis Nightclub, on the 1300 block of Richards Street in downtown Vancouver.

According to Vancouver Police, the incident on the street occurred around 2 a.m.

Chan died of his injuries not long after he was taken by ambulance to hospital.

Vancouver Police are seeking the public's help in determining what exactly happened at the nightclub.

Anyone with information is asked to call Vancouver Police's Major Crime Homicide Section at 604-717-2500 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Chan was the first runner-up in a singing talent contest organized by Fairchild Television in 2005.

Chan formed a duo rap group with Abraham Siu, a finalist in the competition in 2001.

According to Ming Pao Daily News, an impromptu memorial of flowers and cards was set up outside the Vancouver nightclub, in which Chan was identified as the victim.

No angeldevil, you dont have to be a member to view Discuss.com.hk - but anyway the thread has been quiet now. The coverage on Apple, Oriental and Sun, to some HKers, they will not be able to comprehend anyway. Just that the one who laughed about this case was a Vancouverite.

too bad aaron handled it the wrong way.

But, I know brown guys did this.
Just last week I witnessed brown guys trying to shoot down some guy right out side of metropolis.
At first I thought someone was lighting m80s but I was wrong.
Freaking 7 shots, the dude ran for his life.

I think she means there's no such place as "places where you might be killed"
because anywhere could be a possibility
even during daylight at a supermarket parking lot, a drunk violent guy and a possible accidental bump on the shoulder could lead to a tragedy

Wow, so much happened in Vancouver while i was gone for almost a month TT___TT

I finally went to work after my trip, and I hear my coworkers jabbering away in the break room talking about it.  This sickens me at how people come to conclusions and can be very narrow minded.

Still they have yet to find the killer.

i really don't understand, if you have the guts and nerve to kill a person yet you don't have the guts to go to jail? Step up and be more responsible.

and reading comments from "readers" at http://www.canada.com/theprovinc ... a-a426-35c2d3e04a34 it angered me how many people automatically come up with conclusions: for example, once people read/hear CLUB + fight/stabbing/killing... everyone comes up to the conclusion of GANG RELATED.  And especially in Vancouver, when you read/hear Asian, fight, killing or anything negative, a lot of people come to the conclusion of Gangs and Rich, spoiled Asian kids going at it again.  And it's even more stupid that the Media (especially that canada.com article) is so vague that it leads many people come to that conclusion.

I don't remember which Aaron... but I remember a few years back, I went to see the Talent Show at Preisdent Plaze (I think thats the name of the plaze).  Was his talent was playing basketball doing tricks?
