　　(星島日報報道)為了破解「宇宙大爆炸」（Big Bang）之謎，科學家將於下周三展開一項耗資四十四億鎊（約六百億港元）的劃時代實驗，但有科學家擔心這項世界最大型實驗，可能會形成黑洞吞食地球，引發世界末日。

　　負責實驗的歐洲核子研究組織（CERN），將於下周三啟動「大型強子對撞器」（LHC），次原子微粒在接近光速下一起撞擊，以重演宇宙誕生或大爆炸之後的十億分之一秒景象，希望可從中解開生命源頭之謎。

　　反對實驗的科學家形容LHC是「時間機器」，一旦啟動，有可能產生大量迷你黑洞，對全球人類性命構成重大威脅。反對者之一的德國化學家羅斯勒爾表示，其中一個迷你黑洞可能會在四年內膨脹至足以從地球內部「吸食」地球的體積。

　　他與其他反對實驗的科學家根據《歐洲人權公約》指出，該個實驗違反生存權，並入稟歐洲人權法庭，控告為實驗提供資金的二十個國家，期望可在最後的緊急關頭，阻止實驗展開。不過，預料他們的法律行動將無礙CERN如期展開實驗。

　　羅斯勒爾又表示，CERN已承認實驗會製造黑洞，但否認實驗會帶來風險。CERN發言人稱，實驗不會產生在自然界不經常發生的東西，並指反對實驗的科學家的指控「荒謬」。

　　LHC全長二十七公里，架設在日內瓦附近的瑞士和法國邊境，在九十三公尺深的地底下面。

I totally hope that it does create a black hole so all the scientists are proved wrong! They think they are so smart, this German guy must be right being a chemist and all.

I think most of us don't even understand what the risk actually is other than it might be the end of the world, and most knows even less of what the LHC does.

I don't know what the real world implications are of finding Higgs and such, but it may mean new technology like fusion or something.

The controversy is, some scientist worry that it might create mini black holes, and then a whole bunch of scientist did some work and proofed that it wont be a problem. And then some sensationalist decided to play on this cause it makes them more popular or something...

Why worry about the end of the world just because someone told you so?

唔知可唔可以整到個迷你黑洞出黎呢?
如果真係整到, 太陽系唔知會唔會比個黑洞慢慢咁吸左入去呢?
唔知吸得快唔快架呢?

It does not necessarily have to go anywhere, as it might be just a really expensively made trash compactor.
