if i were to change the strut and springs on the front-right wheel, would it result in a big increase in ride height/wheel gap for that wheel (ie 1-2 inches higher)?

i don't think the difference would be 1-2 inches...
and shocks are not going to make the height different... height of the car is related to the springs作者: wongcasey 時間: 2007-12-10 11:05
that's exactly what i thought too
so i damaged my shocks last week and they had to replace it
but when i got the car back the difference is about 2 fingers width height
i asked them if they used original shocks and they said they did
and they said that after i drive for a while the springs will settle in and the height will go down
but i still think it's unreasonable and unacceptable
so they said they will put my old springs back in - hope that will fix the problem作者: Traum 時間: 2007-12-10 12:30
is there any way to adjust the dampening to match the other shocks?
and i think it just looks horrible right now and i would rather have the old spring back in just to have uniform ride height作者: B2L2 時間: 2007-12-10 15:25
Damaged the shock and they replaced your spring too? Did they charge you on that? I agree to put your original spring back.

LOK: new shocks does affect ride height, so does springs! i have seen 2 to 3 (more like 2.5 max) fingers gap more after doing the front blown shocks. those cars usually have over 150k, and shocks are pretty dead.
wongcasey: i dunno why your springs are changed, factory shocks no dampening adjustment; i am guessing they have put in some used outback shocks that's why it's stiffer and higher....

many case u dun have to see an actual leak before the shocks wouldn't hold the spring's oscillation. Rides will become ****ty and height will become lowered.
After shocks replacement ride height will be 1.5 to 2.5 fingers higher, and after settlement might still make 1 to 2 fingers diff...
like a blown shocks, is not like if u can't see oil around it then it's not blown; u have to un-do the whole shocks and check the shaft's "friction"; if it's "blown" then it wouldn't hold the car's weight of course it will sit lower...作者: wongcasey 時間: 2007-12-11 14:17
the old spring wasn't damaged
they put on new springs because they bought it with the shocks
i suspect they put outback/forester springs on for me as well
but anyways i don't trust that place anymore
i'll just take the old parts back from them and bring it somewhere else to have it checked
and change back to my old springs - how much would that cost?作者: 字典仔 時間: 2007-12-11 16:37
subaru's factory springs are a little bit pain to install, but i would say if just changing one corner would cost u about $50? yet u will need another wheel alignment done and probably that way can ensure they did a proper repair on it?!
i have never seen new shocks coming with new springs, from factory...let me give dealer a call right now and i will be surprised if that's the case...must be expensive to force u replacing the springs with the shocks...haha...
