i was listening to 1130 this morning and they talked about lowering gst and making more purchases.

do you see yourself buying more when the gst decreased from 7% to 6% to the current 5%?

Not really.

Since our $$ depreciate so much already, I rather keep the cash to myself.

well, at least it makes me feel better when i looked at the receipt. remember the time it was 14.5% tax (GST+PST)? it did stop me from buying at that time when I worried that I had to add the 14.5% on top of the listed prices (most of the eletronic goods were more expensive back then).

it will help a little bit...but not that much...

but in this kind of atmosphere...something is better than nothing geh

I think we are paying less tax compare with the Maritime Provinces. The HST would cover most merchandises, including food and ingredients; while many items are still exempted from PST in BC. The bottom line selling price is more important for me. Still remember the Meal Tax back in the 80's during Bennett's restraint after Dave Barrett's big spender NDP gov't.

NO NO NO ..
Please dont ..

Everytime .. they drop the GST % .. mean increase in OTHER tax .. ( ie income tax .. property tax .. bluh bluh bluh ... ) propperty is goign to increase another ~ 15% ..

I rather the government lower our income tax ..

So .. saving 1 more % gst .. mean may be $500 saving over a year but easy .. exchange with $500 or $1000 more on income tax/property tax ...

GST reduction is only good for those who is NOT working .. and without property .. ( ie, good for student )

I think lowering GST does not encourage more purchasing.

If you don't need it, you don't buy it anyways.

Sure I am happier, but unless they change to no tax like HK, it doesn't really make a difference.

The easiest way to boost economy, the government should give out cash to people.

i'm actually still shopping and spending regularly....except now, i only buy stuff that's already on sale...so yes, i would appreciate a tax reduction no matter how insignificant it may seem...

Somehow .. I buy more in Canada lately ... as most items ... are cheaper to buy in Canada then US or Hong Kong now .. ( Suits .. watches .. camera .. shoes .. etc .. are cheaper in Canada now!!! )

Weak Cad $ .. for sure will boost Retail business ..

I even eat more chinese food here lately .. $13 for a dry fry beef noodle .. was over $100HKD few month ago .. now .. $80HKD .. still expensive .. but not feeling that bad ar ..
