What is property crime?

Not me but I saw a notice on the lobby yesterday.
Saying last week, we have large number of car breaking in our complex.  The most recent one is on Sunday afternoon.

OH, and we have property crime NOT because WE are CHINESE.

I don't live in Richmond and the highrise residents are mix races with mostly Caucasian.

My car got stolen once and broken in 2 times......right under my apartment.......

Nam, he didn't mention anything about Chinese/Caucasian, please don't start it la, give him and give us a break....

It seems apartment is the hot spot for car breaking..
Perhaps, too many resident and it's hard to say if a stranger is a suspicious person or not.

I don't think the cops CARE.......they will file your case and thats it...

Gum, don't blame everything on the cops.
Sometimes, I feel sorry for the cops in Canada.

They got critized for everything.  A cop that busted a criminal house, and the criminals can get away due to privacy act.  A cop are not advised to use gun, then use taser.  And using taser will get critized.
Sooner or later, if cops use stick, it will be too dangerous for the general public.

If I'm in the police force, I will try to follow the book so that I won't get critized ....

Just being objective and on a case by case basis, I'll agree on that on many of these pety property crimes, the problem is not really on the cops, but is on the judge in terms of the light sentencing which are useless as deterrant against these type of crimes.

Doesn't change the fact that a lot (not all) of cops here spend too much time eating donuts, doing traffic violation, and abusing the weak and innocent instead of tackling real gangs and criminals though.

even if we do not, do not assume we do not care and do not assume this will relate to racism neither...

I think what happen to apartment car breaking is..
people always in a rush to leave the parking lot and don't wait for the gate to shut.

That you have to ask the residents of the building. You scrafice convenience to protection. Protection in like an onion, the more layers you have, the better protection you have. You can install 2 gates. All ENTRY as well as EXIT must be authorized (by human or electronics devices.)

But do you want to scrafice convenience while the insurance covers most of your property loss.  The company that I worked got broke into twice, police came and asked anybody hurted. They gave us case  # and left. What does it tell you.

for my building. i think the security measure is way better when i first moved in. we did have some car break-ins and some townhouse units got broken into as well.
but since the installation of the security cameras, more signage on the gates  and extra speed bumps. we got less of the instants.
our on-site caretaker was able to catch a guy who attempted to break-in twice and handed him to the police.
stopping after the gate is a must and getting to know your neighbors helps as well.

As usual, most people here have no clue.

At least they admit property crimes do happen around them in Vancouver.  The best part is, some of you deserve to be victims of crime.

Thanks Canada :victory ...

I'm not sure about the high raise part as I live in the town house unit.

Our side only have one gate and high rise building have two if I didn't remember wrong.  The first gate is for visitor parking then the second gate is for resident.

When I first moved into this complex, it was pretty quiet and peaceful.
The past years, the original buyers slowly move out... and more younger couple or family move in... and troubles start raising... which quite annoying...

Our back door of  parking lot was broken in December 2008.
And storage unit was broken as well last year.  Our whole complex is line up with electronic lock.  However, people still manage to use tool to break the solid lock outside and cut all locks in the storage.

For all town house units, I think all units are equip with security alarm as well.  Honestly, I don't think it help much....

our building actually upgraded all the outside locks (from the default ones put in by the developer) so that they are harder to cut/break.
i am so far pretty happy w/ the strata and property management.

..
Which management company you guys are using?

We switch to a different company now since the management company we used was appointed by the developer.  And they done pretty much NOTHING at all..except collecting our $$$ monthly.... and... we never seen the building manager in person... The only way we can communicate with him is via e-mail ONLY.

we are using the same that was assigned by the developer. we are lucky to have a responsible on-site care taker. he is a handy man himself so he did some of the easy fix-it up. the upgrade and all the security measures were result of the strata council members and either care taker or the property manager. i was so temped to join the council and help myself as well. but still haven't done it.. may be next year..
i can pm the name of the property management company but that may not make a difference.

a truck ran into our store in the middle of the night once, breaking the doors, the windows, the walls and all that..

my friend's home got broken in and lost valuable stuff, sucking police only record it by phone and never shown up

I still remember one news back couple years ago.
An old guy was home alone and got broken in and he was trying to defend himself but ended up injured the thief.  The thieft didn't get charged for nothing but the old guy was charged for injuring the thief.

Well, the on-site manager is good.  A very hard working Chinese couple but the higher management suck so bad.   All the facility has to done through him but we never see him in person...and he "prefer" to be contact via e-mail (or I should say nobody has his # at all). ....

Well, we ditch the old management by ending their contract 6 months earlier... and the council sign with a different management company.  Basically, all works was done by the strata council. Including shopping for contractor and lining up with different services.  The old management just sit there and collect $.

ai... so many $$$ wasted on too many things (not all management fault gei, part of the high rise resident fault too), those money could have spend on security facility..

victims or not ...should be aware of crime prevention.

with property crimes.....especially
for car theft...break-in....er..
mmm if I remember correctly...
keeping your car free from junk, coins, and accessories is a way to lower the chance of your car being the next target.

typical and an example of discussion topic turns bad.... (cursing other people)

What a gentleman you are.

Your only solution to every problem is "run away".

Mr. Toppy you call people idiot first as far as I can see.

and now you question my brain?

It just proves my point, when you do not have any argument left, all you say is to run away or all of those because of racism.

if we ignore his post, it is still a good topic

anyway, thanks toppy for the topic

What argument was needed?  For what?  To discuss what?  They said "run away" first, not me.

Check your brain, please.

By the way, I never said anything about racism here with respect to property  ...
